From the root ܒ-ܟ-ܪ (b-k-r), related to being first; compare Arabic بَكِير (bakīr), Talmudic Hebrew בַּכִּיר (bakkîr).

     ʾa[n]tōn dên ʾăḥay, ʾaggar[w] rūḥḳōn ʿəḏammā lə-mēṯīṯēh ḏə-māryā. ʾāḵ ʾakkārā ḏa-mə-sakkē lə-p̄ērē yaqqīrē ḏə-ʾarʿā, wə-maggar rūḥēh ʿəlayhōn. ʿəḏammā ḏə-nāseḇ meṭrā bəḵīrāyā wa-ləqīšāyā.

     Be patient therefore, brethren, unto the coming of the Lord. Behold, the husbandman waiteth for the precious fruit of the earth, and hath long patience for it, until he receive the early and latter rain.
