Etymology

[edit]

Probably linked to the above root due to the way panicles of plants look untidy, possibly from the past participle form. Often linked to Aramaic [script needed] (šbōlā) but this is a very unlikely etymology.

Pronunciation

[edit]

Noun

[edit]

ܒܘܼܠܵܐ (būlām (plural ܒ̈ܘܼܠܹܐ (būlē))

  1. panicle (of plants like reed, corn, sorghum, rice, and millet)
  2. wisp of hair
  3. (impolite, humorous) untidy hair of women or girls)
  4. (dialectal, by extension) ear of corn
    Synonym: ܫܸܒܠܬ݂ܵܐ (šiblṯā)
