Assyrian Neo-Aramaic
[edit]Etymology
[edit]From ܒ- (b-, “in”) + ܕܘܼܟܲܬ݂ (dukkaṯ, “place-of”).
Pronunciation
[edit]Preposition
[edit]ܒܕܘܼܟܲܬ݂ • (b-dukkaṯ)
Usage notes
[edit]- This term can be used as an adverb, fairy colloquial and rather limited in use; it can generally only be used at the end of a sentence. So, in the general case, the English adjective and adverb instead does not have an immediate counterpart in Assyrian Neo-Aramaic; rather, a phrase like ܒܕܘܼܟܬ݂ܹܗ (bdukṯēh, “in-place-of-him, in its stead”) or ܒܕܘܼܟܲܬ݂ ܗܵܢܵܐ (bdūkaṯ hānā, “in-place-of this, instead of this, instead”) must be used.
