[edit]From ܐܵܢܵܝܵܐ (ānāyā, “selfish, egoist, egotistical”) + -ܘܬܐ (-uta, the abstract noun ending); compare the same in Arabic الأَنَا (al-ʔanā), أَنَانِيَّة (ʔanāniyya) and Hebrew אָנוֹכִיּוּת (anokhiyút).
