[edit]Unknown, suggested to be borrowed from Akkadian [script needed] (il qaštum, literally “god of the bow/righteouness”). From 𒀭 (il, “god of”) + 𒄑𒉼 (qaštum, “bow, righteousness, power”). A local tradition claims it is named after ‘Alqon’, a Jew said to have been deported there by the ancient Assyrians.
