Etymology
[edit]Inherited from Proto-Turkic *yāyïn (“catfish, sheatfish; salmon”); cognate with Bashkir йәйен (yəyen), Chuvash ҫуйӑн (śujăn), Kazakh жайын (jaiyn), Kumyk яйын (yayın), Kyrgyz жайын (jayın), Nogai яйын (yayın) and Tatar җәен (cäyen).

- the sheatfish, any of various fish of the genus Silurus
- the salmon, any of various fish of the subfamily Salmoninae
- the pike, any of various fish of the genus Esox
