Inherited from Proto-Turkic *yakïn (near, proximate); cognate with Azerbaijani yaxın, Bashkir яҡын (yaqın), Kazakh жақын (jaqyn), Kyrgyz жакын (jakın), Tatar якын (yakın), Turkmen ýakyn, Uyghur يېقىن (yëqin) and Uzbek yaqin.
