[edit]From Middle Mongol ᠶᠣᠰᠤ (yosu, “rule, statute”), compare with modern Mongolian ёс (jos). Compare Ottoman Turkish یاساق (yasaq), Turkish yasak, yasa, Northern Kurdish yasa (“law, statute”), Central Kurdish یاسا (yasa, “law, statute”).
