Inherited from Prakrit *𑀓𑀼𑀟𑀻 (*kuḍī), of Munda or Dravidian origin; compare Santali ᱠᱩᱲᱤ (kuṛi, girl) and Kannada ಕೊಡ (koḍa, youth).
