Persian
[edit]Etymology
[edit]Reborrowed from Aramaic קמרא (qamrā) / Classical Syriac ܩܡܪܐ (qamrā, “girdle”) – in spite of the sense "vault" not being attested in Aramaic, and notwithstanding the sound correspondence /q/ → /k/, which is like in کما (komâ, kamâ) –, itself from Middle Persian 𐭪𐭬𐭫𐭩 (kmly /kamar/, “girdle”), 𐫞𐫖𐫡 (qmr /kamar/, “vault”), the progenitor of کمر (kamar, “belt, arch”).
Noun
[edit]کمرا • (kamrâ)
