Etymology

[edit]

Disputed. Could be from an earlier *کوژدوشَک = کوژ (kuž, convex) +‎ دوش (duš, shoulder, back) +‎ ـک (-ak, diminutive suffix), "the little hunchback" (also see گوژپُشت), or from کُش (koš) +‎ شَتو (šatu) +‎ زَک (zak), literally the killer of aphid pests. Analyzable in Modern Persian as کفش‌دوز (kafš-duz, shoe maker) +‎ ـک (ak, diminutive suffix), literally the little shoemaker (etymologically debunked).
