[edit]Borrowed from Classical Syriac ܨܠܝܒܐ (ṣəlīḇā) or some other Aramaic form, perhaps via Sogdian ܨܠܝܒܐ (clybʾ, “Cross, crucifix”). Aramaic /ṣ/ is often borrowed as /č/ in Middle Iranian. Doublet of صلیب (salib).
