[edit]Inherited from Proto-Turkic *čekürtke (“grasshopper”); cognate with Azerbaijani çəyirtkə, Kazakh шегіртке (şegırtke), Kyrgyz чегиртке (cegirtke), Tatar чикерткә (çikertkä), Turkmen çekirtge, Uyghur چېكەتكە (chëketke), Uzbek chigirtka and Yakut сахсырҕа (saqsırğa).
