[edit]Analyzable as a compound of چاپاق (çapak, “sleep, rheum, gound”) + بالق (balık, “fish”); however the first part actually derives from Proto-Turkic *čapak (“carp bream”), like Azerbaijani çapaq, Turkmen çapak and Chuvash ҫупах (śup̬ah).
