[edit]Etymology
[edit]Probably cognate with Gondi పీర్ (pīr, “stomach”), Telugu ప్రేగు (prēgu, “gut”), Prakrit 𑀧𑁂𑀝𑁆𑀝 (pĕṭṭa, “stomach”), 𑀧𑁄𑀝𑁆𑀝 (pŏṭṭa). Relation to Proto-Dravidian *poṭṭ- (“stomach”) is unclear; ultimately the Indo-Aryan and Dravidian terms may share a common source.
