   • 1177, Farīd ud-Dīn ʿAṭṭār, منطق الطیر [The Conference of the Birds], lines 733—737:

     ابتدای کار سیمرغ ای عجب، جلوه‌گر بگذشت بر چین نیم شب، در میان چین فتاد از وی پری، لاجرم پر شور شد هر کشوری.

     ebtedâ-ye kâr-e simorğ ey 'ajab, jelow-gar be-gozašt bar čin nim-šab, dar miyân-e čin fatâd az vey par-i, lâ-jaram por-šur šod har kešvar-i.

     The beginning of [this] affair of the Simorgh, oh how wondrous! It passed in China in full splendor one midnight, and a feather fell from it in the middle of China. Consequently, each country became ardent [to see the feather].
