Karakhanid

Etymology 1

Inherited from Common Turkic *yub- (“to round”). Cognate with Turkish yuvarlamak (“to roll”).

Verb

يُڤْماقْ (yuwmāq) (third-person singular aorist يُڤارْ (yuwār))

1. (transitive) to roll

   اَرْ تُبِقْ يُڤْدىِ ― Er topïq yuwdï̄. ― The man rolled the ball.

Etymology 2

Inherited from Common Turkic *yob- ~ *yöb- (“to run; to decieve; to reach”). However according to Clauson the three meanings are unrelated and should be considered separate verbs.

Verb

يُڤْماقْ (yowmāq) (third-person singular aorist يُڤارْ (yowār))

1. (intransitive) to run

   اَشْياكْ يُڤْدىِ ― Ešyēk yowdï̄. ― The donkey ran.

2. (transitive) to decieve

   اُل اَنىِ اَرْدىِ يُڤْدىِ ― Ol anï̄ ārdï̄ yowdï̄. ― He cheated & decieved him.

3. (transitive) to reach out, make contact

   اَرْ قَداشِنْ قَرْدىِ يُڤْدىِ ― Er qadāšïn qurdï̄ yowdï̄. ― The man reached out to his relatives and shared his wealth for kindness.
