[edit]Borrowed from Aramaic וַרְשָׁאנָא / ܘܱܪܫܳܢܳܐ (waršānā, “wood pigeon”), from Akkadian 𒆜𒄷 (KASKALMUŠEN /uršānu/, “a kind of pigeon”), itself borrowed from Sumerian 𒆜𒄷 (KASKALMUŠEN /irsaĝ/, “pigeon”).
