    • 10th century, Al-Mutanabbi, Diwan of Mutanabbi:
      أَلَا كُلُّ مَاشِيَةِ ٱلْخَيْزَلَى
      فِدَا كُلِّ مَاشِيَةِ ٱلْهَيْذَبَى
      وَكُلِّ نَجَاةٍ بُجَاوِيَّةٍ
      خَنُوفٍ وَمَا بِيَ حُسْنُ ٱلْمِشَى
      ʔalā kullu māšiyati l-ḵayzalā
      fidā kulli māšiyati l-hayḏabā
      wakulli najātin bujāwiyyatin
      ḵanūfin wamā biya ḥusnu l-mišā
      Indeed, all the mincing women are
      a ransom for all the fast she-camels
      and for all the fleet Bujawi rescuing camels
      straddling in gait for I don't possess elegance of gait either.
