[edit]From Middle Persian [script needed] (hngʾm /hangām/, “time, occasion”); by surface analysis, هن (han, “alternative form of همـ (ham-, “co-”)”) + گام (gām, “step”).[1] Akin to Old Armenian հանգամանք (hangamankʻ, “details, circumstances, way”), an Iranian borrowing.
