مژه
Appearance
Persian
[edit]Etymology
[edit]From Proto-Iranian *maiĵ- (“to blink, wink”), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *mayš- (“to blink, wink”), from Proto-Indo-European *meyg⁽ʷ⁾ʰ- (“to blink, cover (the eyes)”). Cognate with Sanskrit मिष् (miṣ, “to wink”), Lithuanian miẽgas (“sleep”), Proto-Slavic *měžiti (“to close one's eyes”).[1] Alternatively, from موی (muy, “hair”) + ـژه (že, “diminutive suffix”). Akin to Sogdian [script needed] (miža, muža), and Mazanderani میجیک (mijik).
