[edit]From Hebrew מִשְׁנָה (mišnā), From the root שׁ־נ־ה (sh-n-h), meaning “second”, “twofold,” “double,” (because the Mishna demanded repeated study); compare Arabic ث ن ي (ṯ-n-y).
