لوزینه
Appearance
Persian
[edit]Etymology
[edit]Inherited from Middle Persian [Book Pahlavi needed] (lwcynk' /lōzēnag/, “almond sweetmeat, marzipan”), which according to Eilers developed with a n → l sound change from earlier *nōčēnak (“pastry with pine nuts (which taste similar to almonds)”), a derivative of Old Persian 𐎴𐎢𐎨𐎡𐎴 (n-u-c-i-n /naucaina/, “of pine”, adjective), from *nauciš.
Akin to Arabic لَوْزِينَج (lawzīnaj), Khwarezmian [script needed] (lwzynyk), Classical Syriac ܠܘܙܐ (lūzā), Arabic لَوْز (lawz).
