Inherited from Old Anatolian Turkish کندوز (gündüz), from Proto-Turkic *küntüŕ (at day, at daytime). Cognate with Old Turkic 𐰚𐰇𐰦𐰇𐰔 (kündüz), Azerbaijani gündüz, Bashkir көндөҙ (köndöź), Chuvash кӑнтӑр (kănt̬ăr), Kazakh күндіз (kündız), Kyrgyz күндүз (kündüz), Turkmen gündiz, Uyghur كۈندۈز (kündüz), Uzbek kunduz and Yakut күнүс (künüs).
