Etymology

Inherited from Proto-Turkic *kebde (“torso, upper part of body”); cognate with Azerbaijani gövdə, Bashkir кәүҙә (kəwźə), Chuvash хӑвӑт (hăvăt), Kazakh кеуде (keude), Kyrgyz көөдөн (köödön), Turkmen göwre, Uyghur گەۋدە (gewde) and Uzbek gavda.

3. (meat trade) carcass, the entire body of a slaughtered animal, stripped of unwanted viscera, etc.
