[edit]From Middle Persian [script needed] (ʾngwst' /angust/, “finger”) + [script needed] (-pʾn' /bān/, “guard, keeper”); compare Persian انگشتانه (angoštâne, “thimble”, literally “finger guard”), Tajik ангуштпона (anguštpona), and Uzbek angishvona.
