[edit]From Aramaic כָּנוֹנָא / ܟܢܘܢܐ (kānōnā, “brazier”), from Akkadian 𒆠𒉈 (KI.NE /kanūnu/, “brazier, kiln, stove, hearth; a name of a ritual and also the month it takes place”), coming from older 𒆠𒉡𒉡 (ki-nu-nu /kinūnu/).
