[edit]Inherited from Proto-Turkic *kïlagu (“cutting edge”); cognate with Azerbaijani qılov, Bashkir ҡылау (qılaw), Kazakh қылау (qylau), Kumyk къылав (qılaw), Southern Altai кылаҥыр (kïlaŋïr) and Tatar кылау (qılaw).
