[edit]From Middle Persian plytwn' (Frēdōn), from Proto-Iranian *Θraitauna-, from Proto-Indo-Iranian. Cognate to Avestan 𐬚𐬭𐬀𐬉𐬙𐬀𐬊𐬥𐬀 (θraētaona), Lurish فرێدۆ (ferıdø). Akin to Old Armenian Հրուդէն (Hrudēn), a Parthian loanword.
