Etymology

From غرم (/⁠ğorom⁠/, thunder) +‎ تراغ (/⁠torâğ⁠/, loud collision). From Middle Persian [Book Pahlavi needed] (gl'ng /⁠γarrānag⁠/, thunder). Cognate with Persian غران (ğorrân, roaring, thundering), and Persian تراغ (tarâğ, loud collison), variants of which are Persian تراک (tarâk, loud collison, lightning) and Persian طراق (tarâq, loud collison). Further related to Persian ترکیدن (tarakīdan, to explode).
