غردق
Appearance
Arabic
[edit]Alternative forms
[edit]- غَرْقَد (ḡarqad)
Etymology
[edit]Uncertain; while both forms are now about equally distributed, غَرْقَد (ḡarqad) is probably more original, and it may be a blend of غَرِقَ (ḡariqa, “to dive in”) + رَقَدَ (raqada, “to recline”) due to the plant serving the feral animals for recess.
Pronunciation
[edit]Noun
[edit]غَرْدَق • (ḡardaq) m (collective, singulative غَرْدَقَة f (ḡardaqa))
- nitre bush (Nitraria gen. et spp.)
