Etymology

[edit]

Historically written as عنبرنصارا, which seems to be عنبر (ambar, ambergris) +‎ نصارا (nasârâ, Christians). Perhaps an ironic pun on عنبر سارا (ambar-e sârâ, pure ambergris), influenced by the well-known Christian and Islamic story of Jesus riding a donkey into Jerusalem.
