[edit]From Middle Persian 𐭲𐭩𐭧𐭥𐭪 (tīhōg) whence Persian تیهو (tihu).

- a vague term meaning grouse, any bird in the Tetraoninae subfamily, also some birds in the Perdicinae subfamily including Ammoperdix of which there are two species sand partridge (Ammoperdix heyi, حَجَل رَمْلِيّ (ḥajal ramliyy)) and see-see partridge (Ammoperdix griseogularis)

- The sand partridge is a well-known bird called in Persian tihu, its flesh is fat and it adds to the libido by wonderful addition.
