[edit]Borrowed from Arabic طَنْطَنَة (ṭanṭana, “twang, ringing, drum roll”), a word of onomatopoeic origin related to طَنَّ (ṭanna, “to ring, to clang”) and طَنَّان (ṭannān, “ringing, buzzing”). Compare Azerbaijani təntənə and Bashkir тантана (tantana).
