Arabic
[edit]Etymology
[edit]From the root ط ر ط ر (ṭ-r-ṭ-r) which means in the verb form I “to be elevated”, further “to be glorified”. Presumably a dialectal augment of ط ر ط (ṭ-r-ṭ), of which verb form I طَرِطَ (ṭariṭa, “to be a fool; to have tiny hairs”), adjective طَرِط (ṭariṭ, “foolish; having tiny hairs”), related due to the hats being made of felt.
