Inherited from Proto-Turkic *sïčgan (mouse); cognate with Old Turkic 𐰽𐰲𐰍𐰭 (sïčgan), Azerbaijani siçan, Bashkir сысҡан (sısqan), Chuvash шӑши (šăš̬i), Kazakh тышқан (tyşqan), Kyrgyz чычкан (cıckan), Turkmen syçan, Uyghur چاشقان (chashqan) and Uzbek sichqon.
