- c. 1260s, Jalāl ad-Dīn Mohammad Rūmī, translated by Reynold A. Nicholson, مثنوی معنوی [Masnavi-ye-Ma'navi], volume I, verse 3492:
- اهل صیقل رستهاند از بوی و رنگ
هر دمی بینند خوبی بیدرنگ- ahl-i sayqal rasta-and az bōy u rang
har damī bīnand xūbī bē-dirang - They that burnish (their hearts) have escaped from scent and colour:
they behold Beauty at every moment without tarrying.
