From Proto-Turkic *sïgïr (cow); cognate with Karakhanid [script needed] (sïγïr, cow), Kazakh сиыр (siyr), Tatar сыер (sıyer), Nogai сыйыр (sıyır), Kumyk сыйыр (sıyır), Uzbek sigir, and Turkmen sygyr (cow).
