Inherited from Proto-Turkic *sïbuĺgan (worm);[1] cognate with Azerbaijani soxulcan, Bashkir селәүсен (seləwsen), Kazakh шылаушын (şylauşyn), Tatar суалчан (suwalçan) and Uzbek chuvalchang.
