- 9th century, Muḥammad Al-Buḵāriyy, quoting Muhammad, “(69)بَابُ قَوْلِ اللَّهِ تَعَالَى: ”يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا اتَّقُوا اللَّهَ وَكُونُوا مَعَ الصَّادِقِينَ“ وَمَا يُنْهَى عَنِ الْكَذِبِ”, in Ṣaḥīḥ Al-Buḵāriyy:
- حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ، عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ، عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ —رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ— عَنِ النَّبِيِّ —صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ— قَالَ: «إِنَّ الصِّدْقَ يَهْدِي إِلَى الْبِرِّ، وَإِنَّ الْبِرَّ يَهْدِي إِلَى الْجَنَّةِ، وَإِنَّ الرَّجُلَ لَيَصْدُقُ حَتَّى يَكُونَ صِدِّيقًا، وَإِنَّ الْكَذِبَ يَهْدِي إِلَى الْفُجُورِ، وَإِنَّ الْفُجُورَ يَهْدِي إِلَى النَّارِ، وَإِنَّ الرَّجُلَ لَيَكْذِبُ، حَتَّى يُكْتَبَ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ كَذَّابًا».
- ḥaddaṯanā ʕuṯmānu bnu ʔabī šaybata, ḥaddaṯanā jarīrun, ʕan manṣūrin, ʕan ʔabī wāʔilin, ʕan ʕabdi l-lahi —raḍiya l-lahu ʕanhu— ʕani n-nabiyyi —ṣallā l-lahu ʕalayhi wasallama— qāla: “ʔinna ṣ-ṣidqa yahdī ʔilā l-birri, waʔinna l-birra yahdī ʔilā l-jannati, waʔinna r-rajula layaṣduqu ḥattā yakūna ṣiddīqan, waʔinna l-kaḏiba yahdī ʔilā l-fujūri, waʔinna l-fujūra yahdī ʔilā n-nāri, waʔinna r-rajula layakḏibu, ḥattā yuktaba ʕinda l-lahi kaḏḏāban”.
