[edit]Attested as Middle Persian [script needed] (šnāz, “swimming”), from Proto-Indo-European *(s)neh₂- (“to swim”), compare Avestan 𐬯𐬥𐬁 (snā) and Sanskrit स्नान (snāna, “bathing”).
