From Byzantine Greek ἀρχιδιάκονος (arkhidiákonos), ἀρχιδιάκων (arkhidiákōn, archdeacon), or a more corrupt colloquial form, compare شُرْطَة (šurṭa) for χ (kh)ش (š).
