Etymology

Reduplication from the root ر م م (r-m-m) meaning “to restore, to mend”, because leaf decoctions of the nettle-leaved goosefoot (Chenopodiastrum murale) as well as various Heliotropium species were used to relieve those suffering snake bite, scorpion sting, animal asthma and the like.
