- c. 1260s, Jalāl ad-Dīn Mohammad Rūmī, translated by Reynold A. Nicholson, مثنوی معنوی [Masnavi-ye-Ma'navi], volume II, verse 1062:
- هر چه کاری از برای او بکار
چون اسیر دوستی ای دوستدار- har či kārī az barāy-i ō bi-kār
čōn asīr-i dōst-ē ay dōstdār - Whatever you sow, sow for His sake,
inasmuch as you are the Beloved's captive, O lover.
