[edit]Borrowed from Classical Persian دشنه (dašna, “dagger, poniard”), from Middle Persian [Book Pahlavi needed] (dšnk' /dašnag/, “right hand; dagger”).

[edit]From Middle Persian [Book Pahlavi needed] (dšnk' /dašnag/, “right hand; dagger”), from [Book Pahlavi needed] (dšn' /dašn/, “right hand”) + [Book Pahlavi needed] (-k' /-ag/), the former component from Proto-Indo-Iranian *dáćšinas (“right”). Compare the Iranian borrowings: Old Armenian դաշնակ (dašnak), դաշոյն (dašoyn), Classical Syriac ܕܫܢܓ (dašnag, “two-edged dagger”), Arabic دشنج (dašnaj, “dagger”), Georgian დაშნა (dašna, “sword”).
