[edit]Borrowed from Aramaic חַנְדְּקוּקׇא (ḥandəqūqā), הַנְדְּקוּקׇא (handəqūqā, “melilot”), derived from Middle Persian *hndwkʾwkʾy (hindūgūgī), likely from Middle Persian hndwk' (hindūg, “Indian”), due to the heavy use of fenugreek and sourclover in Indian cuisine.
