[edit]From Middle Persian [script needed] (ywtn’ /jūdan/), from Proto-Indo-European *ǵyewh₁-. Cognate with English chew, Pashto ژول (žovạl, “to gnaw”), Baluchi جایگ (jáyag), Northern Kurdish cûtin.
