[edit]Inherited from Middle Persian [script needed] (jamšēd), a Persian formation of Avestan 𐬫𐬌𐬨𐬀-𐬑𐬱𐬀𐬉𐬙𐬀 (yima-xšaēta), from Proto-Iranian *yamHáh (“Yama; twin, pair”) + *xšáytah (“bright, shining”), ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *yemHós.
