[edit]Borrowed from Aramaic גּוּרְיְתָא (gūrəyṯā, “young female cub; slime eel, hagfish”), feminine form of גּוּרְיָא (gūrəyā, “cub”), thus doublet of جُرْو (jurw, “cub”).
