Etymology
[edit]Morphologically from تكیر (tekir, “brindled, tabby”) + طاغ (dağ, “mountain”), but this is just a corrupted form of the earlier name تكفور طاغی (Tekfur Dağı), from تكفور (tekfur, “a Christian bey in Thrace”) + طاغ (dağ, “mountain”). Before the 18ᵗʰ century this city was known as ردوسجق (rodoscuk).
